Rotorgeeks 1407 2800KV (7075 Series)

The Rotorgeeks 1407 continues the tradition of high performance, tough, serviceable motors. The final version is a top performer in its category as well as the lightest, coming in at only 14g with locknut!

As with all Rotorgeeks motors, the 1407 is made from 7075-T6 aircraft grade aluminum, with almost 3 times the tensile strength of traditional 6063.  The case design has been engineered for maximum strength and impact resistance.  Shafts are secured into the rotor both mechanically and with a high strength adhesive to make shaft slippage and vertical play a thing of the past. No set screws are used (unlike Brother Hobby, X-Nova, DYS, RCX etc).  The shaft is held in place at the base with a standard e-clip, making servicing and parts replacement easy.

Single wire winding - offering high current capability and heat tolerance. Most of the high performance custom wound motors use this technique rather than multi strand wire.  Why is it unusual? The larger wire gauge can't be wound by machine...
Hand wound - even with all the automation available today, nothing matches the accuracy of skilled human.  The heavier gauge wire used in the Rotorgeeks motors demands hand winding
Fully serviceable - right from the start we wanted to be able to repair and replace every part of the motor to handle crashes as well as wear and tear.  Bearings are not glued in place.  All parts are available separately - rotor, stator, bearings
The little things Dynamically balanced rotors
Case design engineered for light weight and maximum cooling and airflow to the windings.
Greater clearance from the base to the windings to afford more tolerance on long mounting screws without damaging windings
Japanese NSK bearings
compression washer loaded to control vertical play
We’ve been running the 1407s in various configurations – it's a very flexible motor, typically running on 3-4S power with 3” and 4” props.  We’ve run the 4000kv on 4S with props as high as the HQ 4x4.3x3 V1S  We’ve even run the 3200kv on 5x3.  In most cases the battery is the limiting factor rather than the motor.  All of our test machines have been running the very small and light Cicada 10A ESCs which can run DSHOT (up to 600) and handle 4S voltage.  Alternately the Cicada 20A 4-in-1 ESC is a good choice for those that want to run their electronics in a stack.

No hollow shaft?
We prototyped with the trendy ‘hollow shaft’ design.  It added weight in an area where there was no requirement for additional strength when using 7075-T6 Aluminum.  A steel shaft also restricts the inner diameter of a stator, which is undesirable when designing a small, light motor.  The only motivation we could find for a hollow shaft in this size motor was cost savings (the block of aluminum that the rotors are milled from can be substantially smaller without the height of the prop adapter on top).
